There are three things we’re always guaranteed when we eat at Sapphire in Laguna Beach: a delicious meal, an ocean view, and spectacular people watching.

We always get a table outside, because the weather’s always great and there’s no shortage of shade under the umbrellas on the patio. But more than that, it’s people watching at it’s finest. Between the local surfers and groms, the infamous dive bar across the street, and the tourists aimlessly making illegal left turns, there’s never a dull moment.

Even more impressive than the people watching is the variety of food and drinks at Sapphire. There are menus for weekend brunch, lunch, the different times between lunch and dinner, dinner, and dessert — all of them amazing. The food is diverse and the wine and cocktail lists are impressive.

But this time, we didn’t go for a normal meal — we went to enjoy the prix fixe Father’s Day brunch menu. And it was a doozy.

The cocktail list was full of beachy drinks that were perfect to get the summer started. I ordered a colada-esque drink with coconut and rum.

After inhaling the first course, a summer heirloom tomato salad, we ordered orange scented brioche french toast with summer peaches (pictured above), and the soy braised pork belly with egg, kohlrabi and sticky rice. It was honestly the best pork belly I’ve ever had. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender and caramelized with a ridiculous soy glaze.

Dessert was an espresso cream pie, that was just as delicious as it looks.

We’re always a fan of Sapphire’s brunch, but after this one, we’re counting down the days until next Father’s Day.
